Black Enterprise Magazine: Sister Duo Gives Back to Their Community through Caring Transitions
Kim Bigby and Happie Dunn-Henry became Caring Transitions franchisees to help give back to their Port Jefferson, New York community.
Caring Transitions, the 255-unit franchise that helps seniors relocate to and from care facilities, is consistently looking for new ways to give back to the community. That mission is echoed through sisters Kimberley Bigby and Happie Dunn-Henry, the franchisee team behind Caring Transitions of Port Jefferson, New York.
The sisters recently spoke to Black Enterprise Magazine about their experience as business owners and what led them to franchise with Caring Transitions.
“I share with our clients all the time how my mom is my ‘why.’ I helped move her multiple times before she passed away, and it was overwhelming and stressful for both of us. When she passed away suddenly in January 2020, I was not prepared to take her off the respirator, plan a funeral or pack up her apartment in California,” said Bigby.
This tragic experience got Bigby and Henry thinking, and ultimately, they decided they wanted to open their own franchise to help their community by offering services to support families experiencing planned or unexpected losses of loved ones.
“I don’t want anyone to go through that, but when they do, I want to be there to assist them. I want them to be able to focus on their family and take comfort knowing Caring Transitions of Port Jefferson will care for their family and home as if it were our own,” she added.
According to Bigby, the sisters’ main focus right now is to expand their territory, provide more jobs and serve more people throughout their community.
