Sometimes, the best way to understand a business is to be a customer first. That was the case for Nathan and Sommer Bradds, who leaned on Caring Transitions to help care for their in-laws during a difficult season. The support they received made such a lasting impression that when the opportunity arose to purchase the business, they jumped in. Today, as the new owners of Caring Transitions of South Dayton, the Bradds are combining their personal compassion and professional experience to make life’s toughest transitions a little bit easier for families across nearly two dozen communities in the region.
1851 Franchise spoke with Sommer to learn more about her and Nathan’s stories, what drew them to the Caring Transitions brand and their plans for the future. Here’s what she had to say:
1851 Franchise: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?
Sommer Bradds: I have a background in school social work and helping others. I am looking to do for the elderly what I have done for the youth and their families in my professional career. Nathan has always been in the finance world and has an attention to detail that is unmatched. He spent years looking for a franchise that made sense for our family, and once we used Caring Transitions for our own personal needs, we knew this was the perfect franchise for us!
1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?
Sommer: We have always had an entrepreneurial interest in owning a business that can also serve the community as well. A franchise gave us enough support to not feel like we were going out on our own without a safety net. The Caring Transitions franchise network has felt like a family who wants to see us succeed, and that is something you couldn’t replicate!
1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?
Sommer: We were actually customers (with in-laws) of Caring Transitions and thought it was the most needed service there might be out there for the elderly population, which is why we inquired about buying the company. We saw firsthand how needed these services are to all of our clients and their families, and when we realized we could combine both of our professional backgrounds to help people, we jumped at the opportunity!
1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?
Sommer: We want to offer an easy transition for seniors and their families as they move to the next phase of life. We know that we can take the worry and work off their plates so they can focus on the more important things in life.
1851: Is there anything else about your story you’d like us to know?
Sommer: My husband Nathan and I are starting this business together. We have been married for nearly two decades and are always cheering on the Buckeyes and Bengals, and laughing at our bernedoodle Archie’s antics. We are married with two teenage children, Bella and Max. When we purchased the company our goal was to have a better quality of life and to share the world with our children, which we will do for many years to come.
