What do you want us to know?Carl Newman: I’m in the process of moving here from Australia. I spent the latter part of my working life as a police officer. After 10 years, I was looking for a change. I took a year off to travel and met a girl in Florida — things blossomed, and the relationship got serious enough that I decided to move to the United States.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you’re in it?Newman: I’ve owned a couple of small businesses before — more side gigs than anything — but I’ve always been interested in owning something of my own. Back home, public service is a very secure path, which is why I went into police work. Before that, I worked in the hospital system. When I tried to rent a house for a home office, I didn’t have the right documents, so I had to pay six months of rent upfront.
