Tampa-based Checkers & Rally's restaurants have been doing hot dogs for three decades. So when Burger King announced a new line of wieners, it meant war.

Checkers & Rally's launched a "Wiener War" with Burger King with a full page ad in USA Today.

“It’s worked really, really well for us,” Terri Snyder, Checkers & Rally’s chief marketing officer, told the Tampa Tribune recently. “The brand’s really about selling terrific food at a great value and challenging competitors in that way, and this hot dog thing is just that.”

As part of the battle, Checkers & Rally's announced that it would be selling their wieners for less than half the price of Burger King. So far, the King has remained silent.

“They spent millions of dollars to get this launched,” Snyder told the Tribune. “There’s no upside to them responding to us. We had an amazing time responding to them, though.”

Checkers and Rally's have more than 850 locations.
