Christmas in July? Thanks to Amazon, Holiday Shopping Began Long Before Most Consumers Would Expect

Now, that’s just a little too early, don’t ya think?

For most, holiday shopping likely begins on Black Friday, whether you’re a midnight shopper or a stay-inside-to-avoid-the-crowd online shopper. However, with Amazon’s annual “Prime Day”, some shoppers are really just jumping the gun.

According to CNBC, thanks to Amazon, some consumers began holiday shopping in July (did someone say Christmas in July?). NPD Group surveyed 3,485 consumers and found that about one-third of those who shopped during Amazon’s 48-hour Prime Day promotion, actually did some holiday shopping, CNBC said. The survey also found that about 5% of people had already finished their holiday shopping ahead of Prime Day which happened on July 15 and 16 this year

The early bird gets the worm, I guess?

Although not done quite as early as July, online holiday shopping is set to reach an all-time high this season. According to a different article from CNBC, digital holiday spending is set to sit $143.7 billion this season along, a 14.1% increase compared with last year.

Ready or not, the holiday shopping season is here and this writer plans to contribute to the statistic and only do her holiday shopping online.
