CNBC: 450 Ingredients, 122 New Recipes and Panera Bread Hits Its Goal of Ditching All Food Additives

Panera Bread works with 300 food vendors to rethink how the brand's food is made throughout the entire menu.

Panera Bread has announced it is officially “100 percent clean,” according to a recent CNBC article. The company has been aiming to rid its menu of all artificial flavors, sweeteners, preservatives and colors.

"We can now say to the world that you can walk into a Panera and you can feel a positive sense that you know with absolutely certainty that there are no artificial flavors, preservatives, sweeteners, colors from artificial sources on our menu," Ron Shaich, Panera Bread's founder and CEO, told CNBC.

Deli meat was one of the challenges the brand had to face—a product known for including preservatives and phosphates. In order to naturally preserve Panera’a turkey deli meat now, the company uses water, sea salt and potato starch.
