We are in the final stretch of the year, so it's time to calibrate to have the best shot at winning. So, I decided to dive deep into the state data of where growth is occurring (deals executed).

What is interesting, as you will see below, is that the top 14 states (28% of U.S. coverage) represents 71.5% of deals.

So the question is:

Should you be spending in other states? OR:

Should you narrow down your growth focus to be in states that are having the highest acceleration of growth?

Now, the data is skewed to the 100ish franchise brands we work with and those who are executing deals. I have not broken the data out by investment level, yet.

Another good resource is our state-by-state review (Utah is number 1). Why?

When economic conditions are stronger, the dollar stretches farther for franchisees (who are already giving up a percentage of their dollar to you, the zor).

Top 5 States:

  1. Texas  14.1%
  2. Florida  11.5%
  3. California  5.7%
  4. Ohio  5.7%
  5. North Carolina  5.1%

The top five (tied) states represented 42.1% of deals

Next 9 States:

  1. Michigan  4%
  2. Illinois  3.8%
  3. Arizona  3.2%
  4. Hawaii  3.2%
  5. Indiana  3.2%
  6. Colorado  3.2%
  7. Pennsylvania  3.2%
  8. Utah  3.2%
  9. Wisconsin  2.5%

These nine states represent another 29.5%, meaning the top 14 states represented 71.5% of the states that had deals.

Other states reporting within the mix:

  1. Missouri  1.9%
  2. New Jersey  1.9%
  3. New York  1.9%
  4. Connecticut  1.9%
  5. Virginia  1.9%
  6. Arkansas  1%
  7. Louisiana  1%
  8. South Carolina  1%
  9. Oklahoma  1%
  10. Washington  1%
  11. Tennessee  1%
  12. Massachusetts  0.6%
  13. Maryland  0.6%
  14. Minnesota  0.6%
  15. New Hampshire .6%
