RoboCop actor Peter Weller is the newest celebrity to voice the Colonel, who is now in charge of guarding KFC’s secret recipe.
Whether it be outlandish promotions or clever ad campaigns, KFC’s marketing consistently delivers shock value. The brands latest move? Unveiling a new ad campaign where Colonel Sanders has taken on the role of RoboCop, tasked with protecting the brand’s oft-discussed secret recipe.
According to an article in Nation’s Restaurant News, RoboCop actor Peter Weller voices the Colonel in the series of adds, becoming the latest celebrity to embody KFC’s iconic founder.
"More than 30 years after his debut, we commissioned RoboCop with a new directive – to act as protector and preserve a copy of our secret recipe by transporting it to a nuclear-proof location,” Andrea Zahumensky, KFC U.S. chief marketing officer, said in a statement. “Now, if you happen to survive the apocalypse, you can still enjoy Kentucky Fried Chicken. Makes perfect sense, right?"
It does make perfect sense, Andrea. What also makes sense is the motivation behind national ad campaigns such as this. Not only do they aid in increasing brand awareness and engagement, but their effects are felt by franchisees, as well, thanks to their ability to drive unit-level sales.
