The owner of Forever Yogurt, Premier Restaurant Group, has acquired the 31-unit Cheeburger Cheeburger brand, according to a recent Nation’s Restaurant News article. After purchasing Forever Yogurt in July 2016, PRG plans to expand with a new fast-casual format for the burger brand and says several franchisees have already committed to opening in the next six months.

“Cheeburger is a great acquisition for PRG and allows us to fully leverage the knowledge of my experienced and skilled team,” said Anthony Wedo, PRG founder and CEO.

Based in Fort Meyers, Florida, Cheeburger Cheeburger started in 1986 in Sanibel Island, Florida as part of the better-burger movement and now has traditional and airports units in 12 states along with Canada and Saudi Arabia. The name stems from “Saturday Night Live” popular sketch from the 1970s with John Belushi about a fictional restaurant owner based on Chicago’s Billy Goat Tavern.
