After many pleas and public demands, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is considering adding a “dislike” button, or something of the sort. The button has been a highly requested feature for Facebook because there are certain situations where “liking” a post or sharing it isn’t exactly appropriate, and a comment just won’t suffice. "Everyone feels like they can just push the "like" button, and that's an important way to sympathize or empathize with someone," Zuckerberg told the audience at a Q&A at Facebook headquarters. “But there are times when you may want the simplicity of a one-click response but a "like" doesn't feel appropriate.” What that button might be, no one is quite sure, but Zuckerberg’s main concern with a “dislike” button is the negativity it might promote between user interactions. Zuckerberg is very concerned with creating a social network that is “grounded in reality," meaning he is interested in seeing how fans interact and respond with one another on an emotional and psychological level. If you were previously unaware, Facebook has been testing how fans respond to certain types of posts filling up their feed. Although the experiment was received poorly by Facebook users, it did yield results that have given Facebook a semblance of responsibility to regulate News Feeds properly and help users improve on their emotional and psychological well being. The use of a “dislike” button would contradict these experiments, which is why we probably won’t ever see such a feature, however another one-click option that allows you to express a different opinion other than “like” is probable. There have been no announcements on when we can expect to see this new one-click engagement.
