Fox Business: Facebook, Twitter See Biggest Debate Night Ever as Clinton, Trump Spar

Twitter and Facebook had a big night thanks to the second presidential debate of the election.

As the presidential candidates went head-to-head on the debate stage Sunday evening, Americans did so on social media. According to a recent Fox Business article, the moment when Hillary Clinton took aim at Trump’s character saying the recently leaked tape “represents exactly who he is,” was one of the top three moments on social media last night, from data collected by both Facebook and Twitter.

Other top moments on social media from the debate included the moment when Trump stated that he disagreed with his vice presidential candidate in regards to his Syria policy, and when he mentioned Hillary would be in jail for the way she handled classified emails if he were in office.

On Twitter, yesterday’s debate was the most tweeted day of the 2016 election so far. Recording 17 million debate-related tweets and 30 million sent out on Sunday in total, it was the most tweeted debate in history according to the social network.

Users on Facebook preferred content related to Trump’s leaked tape, ISIS, health care, and taxes. 92.4 million debate-related likes, posts, comments and shares, were generated from 19.8 million users, which was higher than the first debate of the season.

Trump controlled the majority of the conversation on social media, as he has the entire 2016 election. On Facebook, Clinton had 24% of the conversation while Trump had 76% of the chatter. On Twitter, the margin was slightly less, but Trump still had the lead with 64% of chatter compared to Clinton’s 36% of conversation.
