Fox Business: US Businesses Add a Strong 250,000 Jobs in December

Holiday spending, upcoming tax cuts and a strong economic outlook for businesses led to increased hiring in December.

The end of 2017 included a strong finish for hiring for U.S. companies. According to a recent Fox Business article, 250,000 jobs were added last month--the most jobs added in nine months and up from 185,000 in November. Health care and professional services including accounting, engineering and retail were the top industries for gains.

Increased hiring correlates with businesses feeling optimistic about the economic outlook and healthy consumer spending around the holidays, according to the chief economist at Moody Analytics, Mark Zandi. Due to the anticipated income gains from upcoming tax cuts, consumers spent more and the stock market saw strong gains.
