Floyd County native Paul Huff is combining his experience in healthcare and landscaping to open his his second area business, a mosquito protection and prevention service. With mosquito-borne illnesses like Zika on the forefront, Huff will bring this much needed service to Southern Indiana. Paul first heard about Mosquito Joe* when he was reading a landscaping magazine for his other business, a grass cutting company, that he started five years ago.

1851 caught up with Paul to learn more about his background and how he got involved with Mosquito Joe

Tell us a little bit about your background.

I was born and raised in Floyd County. I grew up in Jeffersonville and moved to New Albany once I got married. I attended Indiana University-Southeast in New Albany where I earned my BA in biology. Out of college, I worked for a company called LabCorp. for 10 years and have been working as a project manager for a healthcare software company for the last 15 years. In 2011, I started a grass cutting business on the side with a partner and will continue running that business in the interim. I would eventually like to run Mosquito Joe and the grass cutting business full time.

Why did you choose to become a franchisee with Mosquito Joe? How did you learn about the brand?

I first learned about Mosquito Joe while I was reading a landscaping magazine last spring. The more I read, the better the opportunity seemed. I wasn’t really looking to buy a business at the time, but I had always thought about investing in something that I could pass on to my children. There is no service like Mosquito Joe in the area so I did my research and purchased this territory last November.

What’s next for you and your business? Do you have any development or expansion plans with the brand?

I would like to buy a territory North of here eventually.
