Bruce Phillips, a seasoned veteran of the restaurant industry, has embarked on a new chapter in his career as a consultant with FranNetPhillips, who spent decades working with prominent franchise systems like Yum Brands, McDonald’s and Little Caesars, recently spoke with 1851 Franchise to share more about his transition from a corporate executive to a franchise consultant with FranNet.

Phillips’s extensive background in various functions within the restaurant industry has provided him with a deep understanding of franchise operations and the behavior of franchisees.

“I’ve worked with a lot of different franchise systems and become very familiar with the behavior of franchisees. My passion was always helping them grow their businesses,” said Phillips.

This passion led him to a crucial decision: to stop working for someone else and to explore a new career path that aligned with his goals and expertise.

“When I made the decision to pivot, I did a thorough discovery process,” Phillips said. “I met with six different players in the industry, and FranNet stood out. The more people I met at FranNet, including CEO Jania Bailey, the more I felt the organization was authentic and supportive.”

Phillips’s transition into franchise consulting was not without its challenges. Despite his extensive experience, he initially felt unsure about his qualifications in this new role. However, FranNet’s support system — including six months of coaching and mentoring — helped him gain confidence.

“Even with my background, I questioned if I was fully prepared to guide clients through such significant decisions, which I do not take lightly,” said Phillips. “FranNet does a really good job of matching up new consultants with veteran consultants, and I was matched up with Mike Hall. We became fast friends, as well as establishing a strong professional relationship quickly. He was very helpful to me as I gained confidence in my new role.”

Phillips’s proudest achievements in his new role so far have been helping clients navigate important decisions about their future.

“I had one client in particular who had a background in education and she was seeking a career change. She was smart, personable and a woman of great character,” Phillips said. “Helping her connect with a franchise that matched her background and seeing her optimism and hope was incredibly fulfilling.”

For Phillips, it’s not about closing as many deals as possible; he is dedicated to finding the right fit for his clients and helping them achieve their dreams of business ownership. With the support of FranNet, he has found this to be very possible and looks forward to helping many people fulfill their entrepreneurial desires.
