Husband-and-wife team Ben Blencowe and Jess Blencowe are the new faces of Green Homes Australia in Wagga. Ben has 16 years experience in the industry and started his business, Blencowe Constructions, in 2012 before joining forces with Green Homes Australia in 2020.

"We want to deliver energy-efficient homes to the Wagga region," Ben said.
 

"We knew there was a better way, loved that they were the experts and has since trained to specialise in energy efficient building, and be a Passive House certified builder."
 

The Wagga team is completed with Lachlan Watkins, Ryan Billingham and Nick Blencowe who are passionate about the local area.

"We are local, we care about the people we build for and that their home is a healthy and energy efficient one that they'll still be talking about and thanking us for many years," Jess said.

"We are both practical and knowledgeable in our approach to building sustainable, taking in clients needs and wants and using energy efficient and other design principles to make sure the home we build them will be affordable to live in now and into the future.
 

"We do this by helping clients design/select and build a home that doesn't constantly rely on gas and electricity utilities to stay comfortable year round. One which the design and way it's built means it stays within this thermally-optimal zone without always having to flick a switch."

Creating a home that is comfortable inside no matter the weather without having to run heating or cooling is a notion Green Homes Australia has been focused on since inception.

Today, Green Homes Australia builders around the country are striving to build the most energy-efficient homes possible witha 9.2 star-rated home in Perth currently being constructed where the average is around 7 stars.
 

"We are achieving the highest star rating homes around the country," Green Homes Australia marketing manager Louis Funnell said.
 

Green Homes Australia doesn't use unique or expensive materials to achieve these energy ratings. Instead they use the same materials as any other builder but it's in the planning where the difference is made.

"It doesn't cost a whole lot more than the average builder and that's what we aim to do," Louis said.

Homes are situated on the block to make use of the sun to heat the home, slabs are insulated, homes are designed to allow for natural ventilation (which also makes for a healthier home) and landscaping is taken into account.

Past clients have seen their gas and electricity bills all but disappear thanks to this approach.
