Griswold is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the quality of its nonmedical home care services.

“We’ve had an overriding strategy to differentiate ourselves from traditional nonmedical home care and bridge the gap between nonmedical home care and health care,” CEO Michael Slupecki recently told McKnight’s Home Care Daily Pulse. “How can we, in a nonmedical setting, bring tools to improve our ability to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and keep clients in their home, happy and healthy longer? We’ve been experimenting with lots of different technologies to help accomplish that.”

One of Griswold’s latest AI innovations is the use of Sensi.AI, an audio-based monitoring device designed to detect falls, physical distress and calls for help without being invasive like camera surveillance. Sensi.AI operates via a simple cellular connection, making it easy to deploy and maintain.

“When we’re outside of the home, there have been situations where there’s been a fall and we were alerted and were able to literally save a life,” Slupecki said. “It was after we left the clients home on a Friday afternoon so we weren’t due back until Monday had we not received the alert to intervene. It is a safety net for emergencies as well.”

Although the adoption of Sensi.AI is still in its early stages, with pilot programs running in 10 Griswold offices and around 130 units deployed, the initial feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Slupecki anticipates that the successful implementation of this technology will soon expand across more Griswold facilities, as the AI has shown promise in filling gaps left by the current workforce shortage and enhancing overall client safety.

Overall, Griswold’s foray into AI with Sensi.AI marks a significant step toward integrating advanced technology into nonmedical home care, offering a proactive approach to client safety and well-being. The positive early results suggest that AI could play a crucial role in shaping the future of home care services provided by Griswold.
