Griswold Home Care Announces Steven Turner as Chief Operating Officer
As a health care industry veteran, Turner has a passion for giving back to communities across the country and saw an opportunity to help prospective franchise owners provide an essential service with Griswold Home Care.
Griswold Home Care, the non-medical home care franchise with more than 170 locations, is gearing up for major franchise expansion as the growing senior population creates a steadily increasing need for quality home care. To prepare for healthy growth, Griswold Home Care is building out its infrastructure and leadership team, with the newest addition of Steven Turner as Chief Operating Officer.
Turner has a rich history in the healthcare and home care industry. “I have a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in healthcare from the University of Miami,” he said. “I was a healthcare consultant for many years and started focusing on senior projects. I was also handling senior market studies for assisted living and independent living all over the country. From there, I worked for a third-party administrator and ran a provider network for long-term care insurance. Eventually, I was recruited to run a local home care company and became a home care administrator in South Florida.”
When a local competitor decided to franchise their business and asked Turner to join the team, he got his first taste of the franchise industry. “My background has always been home care and healthcare related, so I consider myself as a franchise-person second,” he said. “Now, working in the senior care franchise world allows me to take all my skill sets and put them to good use.”
A few years ago, Turner was introduced to the Griswold Home Care leadership team and immediately connected with the brand’s mission to provide quality home care to the elderly, disabled adults and others recovering from illnesses.
“Griswold Home Care's CEO Michael Slupecki and I worked together at another franchise brand for five years, and it was clear we had the same philosophy on franchising, the services we provided and how to help franchisees grow,” said Turner. “When an opportunity to join the Griswold team came up, I jumped at the chance. Griswold is iconic and has been around for 40 years. I wanted to help take the brand to 50 years.”
As the first non-medical home care franchise in the United States, Griswold Home Care is backed by unparalleled experience providing both an essential service to communities and a proven and meaningful business opportunity to franchisees. Now, as the home care industry proves to be resilient against the challenges of the pandemic, Griswold Home Care is appealing to a growing number of prospective franchisees who are looking to take advantage of this demand and bring the brand’s essential services into their communities.
“While Griswold has been around for a long time, there is still a lot of opportunity to really grow the business model and there are still markets where we can find new people who are passionate about home care and serving their communities,” said Turner. “That was one of the main reasons I wanted to join the brand — it was an exciting opportunity to take Griswold’s proven methods and spread them even further.”
For entrepreneurs interested in joining Griswold, Turner says the brand’s support infrastructure stands out from competitors. “The support we can give to new owners is really unparalleled in the industry,” he said. “We can dedicate the time, energy and resources to helping franchisees grow. It is a great opportunity for someone who wants to come into this industry as there is a sea of sameness out there among home care companies, and we help franchisees stand out from day one.”
Now, as COO, Turner says his role is to go where he’s needed and help the team in any way he can. “If the operations team needs assistance, for example, I’ll be there to answer their operational questions,” said Turner. “If it is about compliance, my time should be spent there. I also help provide training through Home Care Academy for new owners. My goal is to focus on the bigger picture as well, working with the senior leadership team on program development and what we are going to do next to help our owners thrive in their markets.”
Looking ahead, Turner says the team is planning to spread its footprint and bring in passionate owners in key markets across the country. “But we don’t want to add 40 new owners and just say good luck,” said Turner. “We want to add 10 to 12 and give them all the time and support they need to meet their business goals. From an operational perspective, it is about finding best ways to help owners grow and impact their communities.”
While Turner has only been on the Griswold team for a few months, he says he is already impressed with the skill and passion of other team members. “The way everyone on the team and the franchisees embrace ‘Griswoldness’ is amazing,” he said. “We are following in the footsteps of founder Dr. Jean Griswold and it is clear everyone has a passion for caring that I haven’t seen in other home care companies. Here, the dedication to care is not just something people say, it is how they live.”
Franchise opportunities range from $108,181-$181,431, including a $49,500 franchise fee. For more information about franchising with Griswold, please visit: https://www.griswoldhomecare.com/franchising/investment-info/.
