Hounds Town USA was founded by former NYPD canine handler and commanding officer of the Nassau County Police Department Michael (Mike) S. Gould in 2000 and has since become the prime destination for dogs.

For those keeping track at home, 2020 marks an awesome—or shall we say, “pawesome”— milestone for the brand: 20 years of business! Since its inception, Hounds Town USA has been providing a safe and welcoming environment for dogs complete with interactive daycare, pet boarding, dog grooming, a pet taxi and retail services. And over the last 20 years, Hounds Town has not only become a unique destination for dogs, but it’s also become one for franchise owners. The brand has grown to 12 open locations in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia

Part of what makes this milestone achievement so exciting is how much the Hounds Town brand has really taken off in the last year or so. In fact, Hounds Town signed nine new franchise deals in 2019. “Signing nine new franchise deals in 2019 was really exciting for us because it means our brand has really started to gain traction, and we’re seeing fantastic candidates find their way to us,” said Hounds Town’s President Jackie Bondanza. “That kind of success comes after years of hard work and brand awareness, and we’re excited to see that start to come to fruition.”

In addition to nine new franchise deals, in 2019 Hounds Town expanded into seven new markets, which include Las Vegas; Philadelphia; Orlando and Palm Springs, Florida; and Wilmington and Raleigh, North Carolina. Between 2018 to 2019, Hounds Town’s gross system-wide revenue increased nearly 40% thanks to the new locations — all of which exceeded revenue goals and growth expectations.

One success story is the brand’s Farmingdale, New York location. Ran by Maria Gillen, Jennifer Jung and Candice Lorenzana, Hounds Town Farmingdale received the highest system-wide revenue in 2019. “The Farmingdale franchisees are excellent at customer service, and that is at the heart of the Hounds Town business,” Bondanza said. “They know and understand the need to put the customer first — both furry and human. They value the relationships they have with their customers and go above and beyond to ensure these relationships are fostered.”

“It takes quite a bit of dedication and energy, but they reap the rewards of this in many ways,” Bondanza continued. “Above all, they are genuine people who care greatly about the dogs in their care and the owners who expect trustworthy and reliable pet care. This sense of responsibility and dedication has made them the most successful location to date.”

Maria Gillen was surprised to learn that the Farmingdale Hounds Town was the most successful location of 2019. “It honestly came as a surprise because we know that the overall Hounds Town system is hardworking and dedicated,” Gillen said. “However, if we were to pinpoint it, we would guess it's because we put a strong focus on customer service — we answer customers promptly and they can usually see an owner or manager’s face any time they come in.”

It’s not hard to see that Hounds Town USA has come a long way since its humble beginnings in New York — and after a successful 2019, the brand has high hopes for its 20th year.

Currently, Hounds Town is developing locations in the following markets: Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Bucks County, Pennsylvania; Palm Coast and Orlando, Florida; Raleigh and Wilmington, North Carolina; Las Vegas, Nevada; Montgomery County, Maryland; and Nashville, Tennessee.

In addition to the aforementioned markets, Hounds Town is targeting Colorado and Texas, as well as many markets in Florida. Ideally, the brand would like to sign 12–15 new franchises before the end of the year. After that, it would like to continue to add at least 25 new franchisees each year.

The startup costs for a Hounds Town USA franchise range from $293,800 to $452,500. The franchise fee starts at $75,000 for two units. To learn more about franchising with Hounds Town USA, visit https://www.houndstownfranchise.com/.
