Saladworks is celebrating 30 years since their first opening by giving away free salads to the first 30 customers in line at every store on Friday, September 30, 2016.
"It's a pretty noble accomplishment to be around for 30 years. I think it's important that our customers know that this brand has been around for a while, and that we do have some history," High told the Lancaster Online reporter.
The first Saladworks opened in 1986 and has since expanded into 14 states and into other countries like Canada and Dubai.
"It's nice, because with allergies, with different tastes and gluten issues and things like that, I find that people really appreciate customization," High told the reporter.
With the 2009 economy crash, Saladworks sales dropped drastically. None of the franchisees knew how to move forward. This ended up being a blessing in disguise.
"It was the best thing that every happened to us. We learn how to run a business. You quickly realize what's necessary and what's not. We had to look ourselves hard in the face and say 'If it's not necessary, we're going to have to cut it.' We learned how to run a better, leaner, tighter business," High told the reporter.
Since the reinvention of the company, the interior has been revamped with updated technology and kiosks where people can place orders. High's store is expected to be renovated within 12 to 16 months.
