Growing a home service business doesn't always require finding more customers. Sometimes the biggest opportunity comes from serving existing ones in more ways.
That was the thinking behind brothers Bailey and Brandon Robertson's decision to add Lawn Squad after building a successful multi-territory Mosquito Squad Plus business. Rather than treating lawn care as a separate venture, the veteran franchisees saw an opportunity to strengthen relationships they had already spent years building with homeowners.
"We've got a good team here. We definitely want to get into some more commercial business. We also want to get involved with those customers that we already have. We have hundreds on the Mosquito Squad Plus side," Bailey said during a recent interview with WAAY-31 in Huntsville, Alabama. "Just being able to lean into that and service that customer base as well. We kind of want to be more of that one-stop shop for people, so they don't need a different person for all these different services coming to their home."
That gives Lawn Squad a natural place within a broader home service business. Franchisees can offer lawn care to customers they already serve, giving homeowners fewer companies to manage while opening another source of revenue.
The brothers have also divided the business around their individual backgrounds. Brandon handles operations, drawing on his agriculture experience and plant science degree, while Bailey leads sales and marketing after earning an MBA and working for Amazon.
"We were independently successful before getting into business together," Brandon said. "I run the operations of the business and Bailey runs the sales and marketing. We have our own lanes. We stay in them and help where we can, but everybody puts in the work and it works out."
That division of responsibilities has helped the brothers grow across several territories without losing focus on the customer experience. Lawn Squad also fits naturally alongside their existing home service business, giving them another way to retain customers as they expand.
For franchise owners interested in offering more than one home service, the Robertsons show how Lawn Squad can fit into an existing business. It gives owners another way to serve current customers while opening the door to continued growth.
