“Could tacos get any more kick-butt than this?” Such is the opening question posed by a shaggy-haired Jason Sudeikis in SNL's <a href="http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/taco-town/n11981/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=lets-taco-bout-breakfast-baby-384" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Taco Town</a> skit, during which a normal taco is wrapped in multiple tortillas with multiple layers of cheese, baked in a corn husk, wrapped in a Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, rolled up in a blueberry pancake, dipped in batter and deep fried. Oh, and don’t forget the commemorative tote bag filled with chili. While Taco Bell is far from Taco Town, they’re inching closer as far as options go. Introducing, the Waffle Taco.

The item is the Bell’s take on breakfast: scrambled eggs and sausage inside of a folded waffle, complete with a syrup packet (whether or not the packet is dressed in clever text like the brand’s hilarious hot sauces is yet to be determined). The unveiling of the Waffle Taco came casually with a sole Instagram post that soon went viral, but USA Today reported that spokesman Rob Poetsch told the paper the brand plans to “roll it out to all of our restaurants that serve breakfast.” Last summer, Taco Bell launched The A.M. Crunchwrap, inspired by Taco Bell’s Crunchwrap Supreme, which included scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, cheese and a hash brown all wrapped up in a tortilla. Participating locations still serve the item, along with several breakfast burrito options, which the Waffle Taco will reportedly soon join.

The move is undoubtedly part of Taco Bell’s attempts to compete against McDonald’s, who dominates the breakfast sphere with classic items like the McMuffin and more Taco Waffle-esque offerings, such as the McGriddle. The home of the golden arches has been hinting at serving breakfast all day, a move that could elevate them above Taco Bell even more, as 25 percent of the brand’s sales come from breakfast.
