Little Caesars Latest Franchise to Test Plant-Based Protein

Impossible created a special sausage topping for testing in Florida, New Mexico and Washington.

As consumers continue to demand plant-based protein alternatives in their dining options, Little Caesars is the latest franchise to grab a slice of the action. According to CNN Business, Little Caesars is now testing an Impossible Supreme Pizza topped with meatless sausage in Florida, New Mexico and Washington.

The Impossible sausage was specially designed for the pizza franchise after Little Caesars told the plant-based protein manufacturer that its sausage pizzas sold better than its beef offerings, according to CNN Business. The Little Caesars team had also taken notice of the plant-based trend.

"These kind of flexitarians have been growing in nature," Ed Gleich, Little Caesars’ chief innovation officer, told CNN Business, adding that "they're not hard core" vegetarians, but "they're more adventurous" in their choices. CNN Business also reports that CEO David Scrivano said that “this is likely just the beginning of plant-based menu items from Little Caesars.”
