I served in various civil engineering squadrons worldwide, including deployments to Afghanistan in 2006 and 2016, Qatar in 2021, Korea in 2004 and 2011 and England in 2005-2008. After 26 years of service, I retired as a lieutenant colonel in 2021. I currently work as an aviation program director at Woolpert, leading leading client relationships and business development in support of strategic growth at the full-service architecture, engineering and geospatial firm.Amy has worked as a pharmacist for 25 years. Frequent relocations meant she worked at multiple hospitals, and while in Korea, she worked as a pharmacist on base. Now with Humana, she is responsible for providing clinical subject matter expertise to Humana’s formulary build process and research agenda to assure members’ access to evidenced-based, clinically appropriate, and cost-effective pharmacological treatment options.We were actively looking for locations to open a rotating craft beer tap house when Amy came across some Voodoo marketing online and recommended that we research it. What do you want us to know?Stephen Westerman: We’re twin brothers — grew up together, been best friends our whole life and share most of our life experiences. We went into business together 12 or 13 years ago, starting with a bathroom remodeling business. We were looking for areas to explore and started looking into TWO MEN AND A JUNK TRUCK. As teams were mucking out a home next door, this homeowner returned and placed a “For Rent” sign on the front door.“This house floated away and was resting against another house, but that was like the heart of the community right then,” she said. “Everyone needed a good laugh, and it was fun to be there. Where do I find my crew? Am I the one that’s actually going to be painting?”From there, once the business model has been evaluated from both angles, Luttrell recommends looking deeper into what your specific role will look like.<h2>Am I Buying a Business or a Job?</h2>One of Luttrell’s biggest hesitations early on, and one his partner shared, was the fear of buying a job rather than a true business. He did not want to spend his days climbing ladders; he was interested in an investment that would position him to lead and scale.&nbsp;A piece of advice that he received during the validation process lent some clarity.
