Nation's Restaurant News: McDonald’s to bring back Szechuan Sauce

Fans of the “Rick and Morty” cartoon protested when the burger franchise ran out of the sauce during an October promotion.

On Thursday, Nation's Restaurant News announced that McDonald’s will be bringing back Szechuan Sauce on February 26. In order to combat the negative reaction from the shortage faced during the last release, the quick-service restaurant plans to produce 20 million cups which will be offered at all U.S. restaurants.

“Our super-limited batch, though well-intentioned, clearly wasn’t near enough to meet that demand,” the company said. “We disappointed fans, and we are sorry. To fully make amends, we felt it was important to not only bring back much more sauce this time but to also admit our mistakes, answer questions and give fans access to the story behind the story.”

The launch is supported by an investigative podcast called "The Sauce," where McDonald's executives share insights into the missteps of the 'Sauce riots of 2017" and how the new launch will be different.
