Panera Issues Challenge for Industry to Increase Transparency on Ingredients

Panera’s “Food Interrupted” series shines a light on leaders in the food industry working to make a difference across the nation.

Panera is taking steps to increase its own transparency in sharing ingredients, and encouraging other brands to do the same. According to a recent article in Fast Casual, the company has launched “Food Interrupted,” a series of episodes chronicling the stories of different leaders in the food industry working to make a difference across America. These can be found on Facebook Watch.

In addition, the brand will now be showcasing the percentage of whole grains in all products that include over 50% in order to give guests a clearer picture of each item’s nutrition. This comes as part of the Panera’s dedication to providing clear, measurable data on ingredients for its guests.

"At our size and scale, we believe it's part of our job to help revolutionize the food industry from the inside out — challenging the way things have always been done. From the whole grain in our breads to the ingredients in our food — we will be relentless, leading by example and committed to increased transparency. But we can't do it alone. People deserve to know more about their food and how it makes its way to their plate. Together, we can make a real change in the food system," said CEO Blaine Hurst.
