Franchisee Toolkit: The Key to Success in Owning a Pet Wants Franchise
From onboarding to opening a brick-and-mortar store, Pet Wants sets up franchisees with the tools to thrive from day one

Owning a Pet Wants franchise isn’t just about selling high-quality pet food — it’s about launching a meaningful business with the confidence, skills and support to succeed. From the moment a franchise agreement is signed, Pet Wants equips new owners with an all-inclusive toolkit built to foster long-term success.
According to Jessica Riedy, vice president of operations at Pet Wants, the franchise’s approach to training and ongoing support is what truly sets it apart.
“New owners start their journey, once the agreement is signed, at the onboarding process,” Riedy said. “They work one-on-one with an onboarding coach, going through all the steps to ensure their business is set up properly.”
Once the foundation is laid, franchisees dive into eight hours of dedicated virtual training focused specifically on nutrition and pet food. That’s just the beginning.
“Then they come to Pet Wants HQ for our training week — a full week, onsite, during which they are immersed in the training they need to succeed. All of our coaches and some of our vendor partners are on hand to help them get started,” Riedy said. “They get hands-on merchandising training — how to set up for mobile events and markets, sales techniques, marketing, all of it.”
Franchisees can ask questions and start building their business plan and financial projections during this in-person week. And once the week is over, Pet Wants support continues.
“There is ongoing communication, check-ins, and monthly training,” Riedy said. “They work closely with a franchise business coach on a one-on-one basis. In addition to the support from their franchise business coach, franchisees have the support of our top tier marketing and operations team, who are ready to help franchisees as they navigate every aspect of their business.”
Unlike many retail franchises that take months to generate revenue, Pet Wants franchisees begin selling and building brand awareness quickly through their mobile store.
“Our new franchisees are expected to launch a month after training,” Riedy said. “Most retail businesses, especially brick-and-mortar, take a long time to generate revenue. We focus our owners setting up their mobile store at 10 events a month – local farmers markets, pet events and other community centered events. They begin building a customer base well before opening their brick-and-mortar location. This also makes it easier for them to establish themselves in their community.”
When franchisees are ready to open a physical storefront, Pet Wants has systems in place to streamline the process.
“We have a dedicated retail manager who walks them through that process — helping them find the right space, the buildout, fixtures, ordering inventory, merchandising, etc.,” Riedy said. “And once they open their store, they can continue attending events to get their name out in the community.”
This hybrid approach allows franchisees to scale at their own pace while maximizing exposure and revenue.
Pet Wants also provides an integrated tech toolkit to make running the business smoother from day one.
“Each location gets access to their own dedicated e-commerce website,” Riedy said. “This is in addition to email, and SMS marketing tools as well as their point of sale system, which has handheld devices for the events.”
This technology platform gives owners the ability to easily send targeted emails, texts, manage promotions, and stay connected with customers.
Whether it’s a first-time entrepreneur or a seasoned business owner, Pet Wants franchisees are supported with comprehensive tools and training from a team of experts offering owners a step-by-step roadmap to success.
“Our goal is to help franchisees hit the ground running and stay on a growth trajectory,” Riedy said. “With the right tools and consistent support, they’re able to do just that.”
