Pollo Campero, the Central American chicken franchise with 350 locations worldwide, is now looking to Mississippi for franchise expansion in the United States. Last year, the company opened 11 new restaurants and saw double-digit revenue growth — and that impressive growth is continuing into this year. With plans to open another 25-plus restaurants in 2024, the system has already surpassed the major milestone of 100 units in the U.S. and is strategizing for its continued growth and development.

“We’ve developed strategic growth plans to get us to 270 plus stores within five years. We see a great opportunity for continued expansion in Mississippi,” explained Vice President of Franchise Development Blas Escarcega. “There is capacity for between 7 to 10 total restaurants in the state, and we’re targeting the southernmost part of the state for our initial growth.”

Escarcega added that some key growth markets include Gulfport and Biloxi. There is already a presence of legacy customers around Gulfport, but the entire coast is booming with development, giving franchisees an opportunity to grow their businesses alongside their communities.

Pollo Campero aims to open a new restaurant in the next three years, three in the next five years, and five within the next decade as it strategically develops the Mississippi market.

“Chicken consumption is high in Mississippi, and these communities are home to aerospace, defense, automotive, agriculture, processing, and food and beverage industries,” said Escarcega. “Strong businesses indicate a healthy economy, and these industries also serve to draw people into the market, meaning Pollo Campero will get even more exposure.”

In addition to an attractive market, Southern Mississippi offers prime real estate availability with attractive prices, meaning new franchisees will have more flexibility in securing their ideal sites.

As Pollo Campero works to identify its first franchise partner in Mississippi, Escarcega will consistently visit the market to meet with interested entrepreneurs and discuss how the brand will best fit into specific communities.
