For over two years, Sam Maropis has enjoyed the benefits of working with Property Management Inc.(PMI), the nearly 400-unit brand that has grown to be the number one property management franchise in the nation. He started purchasing properties in the early 2000s, and dabbled in brokering, lease management and property management on his own until joining forces with PMI.
“Property management is a long term income strategy that is so incredibly valuable. This is a wonderful business model, and it’s amazing how much of a gold mine property management is,” Maropis said.
He serves the San Antonio, Texas, area and has an impressive portfolio of about 430 residential units, a few commercial properties and two vacation rentals. Maropis has also grown his team to employ seven people from all over the world.
Before getting into real estate, Maropis had experience running his own business. He started his own company doing custom plastics printing in the ‘80s, and it was incredibly successful. The growth was almost overwhelming for him, and there were a lot of challenges to being an entrepreneur, he realized .
“We were so busy, it was frightening. It was non-stop work. The problem I had was that no one really understood my business because it was too niche. No one could give advice or really understand my business because I built it from scratch,” he said.
He ended up selling the company, chalking it up to the lesson “that you really can't run a business completely by yourself.”
The great thing about being a PMI franchisee for Maropis is that he can run his company with the support of the brand in the background. “I started thinking about how my real problem with the printing business was being by myself. I saw the value with PMI was that I would own my own business, but I'd be working with people who really understood the business and their advice is correct 99.9% of the time,” he said.
“They have a direct incentive in helping the franchisees. They are super knowledgeable and they work extremely hard to help us. If you want to grow as a business owner, they want to help you,” he said of the franchisor’s support.
“Here at Property Management Inc., we are thrilled to have an experienced real estate professional like Sam as a part of our franchise system,” said Steve Hart, PMI CEO. “We work closely with Sam to ensure he has all the tools and resources needed to serve his growing portfolio in the hot San Antonio market,”
