QSR Magazine: McDonald’s Announces $150M Commitment to Employee Education
The fast food giant is lowering the eligibility requirements for its Archways to Opportunity program.
As employee wages continue to become a more heated topic of conversation in the restaurant industry, McDonald’s has announced that it’s investing in its employees. A recent QSR Magazine article notes that the fast food giant has committed to a $150 million, five-year plan that will boost its global Archways to Opportunity platform, ultimately providing nearly 400,000 U.S. restaurant employees with access to the program.
McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity program offers employees in the U.S. to earn a high school diploma, receive upfront college tuition assistance, access free education advising services and learn English as a second language. With this new initiative, McDonald’s is lowering the eligibility requirements from none months to 90 days of employment and dropping weekly minimum shifts from 20 to 15 hours.
In a statement, McDonald’s chief people officer, David Fairhurst, said, “Since its inception, Archways to Opportunity was meant to match the ambition and drive of restaurant crew with the means and network to help them find success on their own terms. By tripling tuition assistance, adding education benefits for family members and lowering eligibility requirements to the equivalent of a summer job, we are sending a signal that if you come work at your local McDonald’s, we’ll invest in your future.”
