QSR: When Franchising Just Doesn’t Work

Fast casual Taqueria del Sol shifts gears six years after branching out to the franchise industry

When Atlanta-based Taqueria del Sol began franchising their restaurant, as reported by QSR, they were more focused on pace than on quality. That focus, it turns out, led owners Mike Klank and Eddie Hernandez to close all franchise locations, with the exception of one franchisee in Nashville, who they’ll continue to work with.

“The main thing for us is that the hardest working people in our restaurants are the owners and the GM. And the franchisee didn’t buy into that,” Klank told QSR.

With their sites now focused on expanding within their own company, the fast casual restaurant is gearing up to open new locations in Atlanta and other Nashville locations, which will be run by the Nashville franchisee group they’ve been working with.
