Richmond Times: Army Veteran Finds New Purpose Serving Richmond as a Business Owner

Justin Kendall has found purpose again after service, now serving his own community through his Richmond-area Pestmaster franchise.

About a decade after retiring from the U.S. Army, Justin Kendall, now-owner of Pestmaster of Richmond, found himself looking for purpose again.

“The faster you can find something that will bring you a sense of purpose and fulfillment and structure in your life, the better,” Kendall told Richmond Times. “Just try to stick to those routines, because in the tough times that will help you keep going to the good times.”

Kendall had worked in pest control prior to joining the military and, “happened to be really good at it.”

However, in the Army, Kendall was a signals intelligence specialist. So, when he retired, he was balancing a varied background and skill set with a need to find purpose. It was then that he discovered Pestmaster, a pest management franchise with over 60 units that had been recognized as a top small business for the federal government.

“My first experience in pest control, it was more of a job, and I happened to be really good at it,” he said. “But the second time around, I realized that I was still protecting, just protecting in a different way.”
