In March, they traveled to Kenya to help build 53 wheelchairs, offering the gift of mobility to individuals with disabilities.&nbsp; “When you think about 53 wheelchairs, it is not a really big number, yet most of the ways we make a difference in the world are not through some huge thing that impacts the lives of millions at once,” Adam told&nbsp;<a href="https://tucson.com/news/community/tucson-wheelchair-donations-free-wheelchair-mission/article_8be5ef46-0b11-11ef-8370-677aef17ab92.html?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=arizona-daily-star-tucson-couple-helps-provide-wheelchairs-for-needy-worldwide-2726258" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">the Arizona Daily Star</a>. “It is really one by one.”Since its inception in 2001, Free Wheelchair Mission has distributed over 1.4 million wheelchairs to people in 95 developing countries. Despite this achievement, the World Health Organization estimates that 80 million people worldwide still need wheelchairs, with less than 10% having access to them.In Kenya, Adam and Kola participated in building and fitting wheelchairs, working in villages around Nanyuki. “Just to see the smiles on people’s faces when they were in their wheelchairs — they were so grateful,” Kola said. “One gentleman was a double amputee who taught Sunday school. His wife carried him on her back to church every Sunday. It is a kilometer away from their house, and after church, she carried him back home.
