Most home services franchise opportunities fall into familiar categories. HVAC. Plumbing. Roofing. Pest control. Lawn care. Screenmobile offers something different.
For more than 40 years, the company has built and refined a business around a category it helped create: on-site screen repair and installation. Today, Screenmobile franchisees provide everything from window and door screen repair to motorized screens, patio enclosures, awnings, security screens and outdoor living solutions, all delivered directly at the customer's home.
"From a category perspective, we have very limited competition because we have been at this for 40-plus years and we really invented the category, particularly in the franchise space," said Josh Minturn, vice president of development for Authority Brands.
That differentiation has helped Screenmobile build a business model that combines essential home services demand, low startup overhead, strong margins and the ability to scale over time. For entrepreneurs looking for a home services franchise with white space and long-term growth potential, the timing may be particularly compelling.
A Category Creator in a Fragmented Market
One of the biggest challenges in home services today is standing out. Many service categories are saturated with competitors, making customer acquisition increasingly expensive and forcing operators to compete primarily on price.
Screenmobile's category looks very different.
"What I've always looked for in a franchise model has been fragmented markets," said Clint Rowley, brand president of Screenmobile. “The more fragmented the market, the more mom-and-pops that are out there, the better for us because with a franchise behind you, with branding and logoed shirts and wrapped trucks, you could most certainly increase your brand awareness.”
Unlike industries dominated by large national brands, screen repair and outdoor screening solutions can be served by local contractors and specialty providers. For homeowners, that can mean turning to handymen or general contractors when specialized screening expertise is needed.
"Most people who do screen repair are just handymen who take the broken screens to ACE Hardware or Home Depot," Minturn said. “We can do it all on-site. We can even custom-build brand-new screens right there at the home.”
That professional gap creates an opportunity for franchisees to enter markets with an established brand, established systems and a customer experience that often stands apart from the alternatives.
"The consumer experience is very different than the competition," Minturn said. "That is what allows us to grow in a market. The consumer realizes there is a different way to do this."
Screenmobile franchisees also benefit from being part of Authority Brands, one of the largest home services franchise platforms in North America. Beyond Screenmobile's own support systems, franchisees gain access to shared resources, operational best practices, technology platforms, marketing expertise and insights gathered across multiple high-performing home services brands.
"We have evolved with the tools, equipment and tech we are using, as well as the support," Minturn said.
A Low-Overhead Business With Predictable Cash Flow
For many prospective franchisees, one of the most attractive aspects of Screenmobile is the simplicity of the business model. Unlike concepts that require expensive real estate, large employee counts or significant inventory investments, Screenmobile allows owners to launch with relatively low overhead.
"You can run it with very little overhead out the gate," Rowley said. “Your startup is you, a truck and a trailer and a laptop. You're off and running.”
The business also benefits from a workflow that helps reduce financial risk. When customers purchase larger projects, franchisees typically collect deposits before ordering materials. Products are then custom ordered and installed once they arrive.
"You're getting a deposit, then you're ordering the products, and then you're installing the product," Rowley said. "So it's a very secure business. It becomes extremely predictable."
The model's simplicity is complemented by encouraging unit-level performance metrics. According to the brand's 2026 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees reported average gross revenue of $477,743, served an average of 402 customers annually and generated average gross sales of $1,139 per customer. The estimated initial investment ranges from $148,049 to $209,592, allowing entrepreneurs to enter the home services industry at a significantly lower cost than many brick-and-mortar franchise opportunities.
More Than Screen Repair
While Screenmobile built its reputation on screen repair and replacement, the business has evolved significantly over the past decade. Today, franchisees can generate revenue from a broad range of residential improvement projects, many of which carry significantly larger ticket sizes than traditional screen work.
"Screenmobile by nature was a screening company — windows and doors," Rowley said. “As we've evolved and continue to evolve, we're getting into much bigger projects: motorized roll-downs, awnings, porches, patios, enclosures, three-season rooms and things of that nature.”
Those higher-ticket offerings allow franchisees to grow average job values while serving homeowners who are increasingly investing in outdoor living spaces. The shift is also creating additional growth opportunities for existing franchisees. "We want to help our franchisees grow by expanding their vision on the products they're selling and going after bigger-ticket items," Rowley said.
Built for Entrepreneurs Who Want to Build an Asset
Rowley's perspective on franchising is shaped by personal experience. Before joining Screenmobile, he built, scaled and exited multiple businesses, including ventures in pest control, fitness, marketing, property management and swimming pool services. That background continues to influence how he thinks about franchise ownership.
"For me, it's always about growing the asset," Rowley said. “I love the idea that I get to work, I get to earn money, my family gets to earn money, my employees get to earn money, but at the end of the day, it's an asset just like a house or a stock that has value and can be sold.”
That focus on long-term value creation is one reason he became such a strong advocate for franchising after years as an independent entrepreneur. "The franchisor brought all the stuff that I didn't like and frankly wasn't good at," Rowley said. "Branding, logos, websites, technology — all of that is taken care of. You get to just go be the business owner and go to work."
One of Screenmobile's biggest advantages, for example, is that the business is not designed to remain an owner-operator job forever. "It's highly scalable — the business model allows candidates to invest in infrastructure and build out their crews in a way that doesn't require them to be directly on a crew doing the building," Minturn said.
Franchisees can start with a single truck and trailer, then add additional crews, vehicles and territories over time. The result is a clear pathway from owner-operator to multi-crew operator and ultimately to building a valuable business asset that can be sold.
Why Now?
Looking ahead, the broader outdoor living movement is creating additional momentum for the category. Homeowners increasingly view patios, porches and outdoor spaces as extensions of their living areas, driving demand for motorized screens, shade solutions, enclosures and comfort-focused upgrades.
Last but not least, the industry remains highly fragmented, leaving substantial room for professional operators to gain market share. Screenmobile currently has 138 franchised territories across North America, but leadership is confident that there is significant white space available.
"We've got a lot of areas around the country that we can still grow into and we're excited to grow into," Rowley said.
For prospective franchisees, that combination of white space, fragmented competition and increasing consumer demand creates an attractive growth environment.
"Business is business," Rowley said. “If you can manage people, get people to believe in your vision and provide five-star service to customers, the sky's the limit.”
