Why Famous Toastery Prioritizes Charitable Initiatives at Every Restaurant It Opens With a Focus on Making a Difference in Its Communities

Famous Toastery, the 25-plus-unit, North Carolina-based better breakfast and lunch franchise, aims to create beloved neighborhood establishments in every market it enters. As a part of that community-driven mission, the Famous Toastery team makes a big effort to give back to the dedicated guests that support the brand by donating to several charities and regularly embarking on charitable initiatives across its franchise system. Now, as the brand expands rapidly across the Southeast, the Famous Toastery team is looking to partner with passionate franchise owners who are eager to give back to the communities they serve.

“Since our inception 17 years ago, we’ve always been focused on being a community-focused restaurant, because the segment we operate in — breakfast and lunch — is all about nurturing community,” said Brian Burchill, Chief Culture Officer of Famous Toastery. “Our success is based on guests coming in and supporting us. Since they are helping us grow, we want to say thank you in any capacity we can.”

Over the years, Famous Toastery has donated to several charities, including: Classroom CentralChildren’s Attention HomeThe Salvation Army of Greater CharlotteVeterans Bridge HomeRichard Sheltra Memorial FoundationPromising PagesStand for Animals and more.

In 2021, Famous Toastery donated $4,000, jointly raised with the Charlotte Independence, to Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization that helps provide the families of fallen and disabled service members with educational scholarships. The brand also donated $667 to Richard Sheltra;  $1,200 to Stand for Animals; $2,765 to Classroom Central; and $1,222 to the Salvation Army.

“We encourage our owners to donate to whatever charity they like, but if they don’t have a specific charity in mind, we will recommend one or help set up the donations,” said Burchill. “When we open a store, we usually have a soft opening the weekend before the grand opening. We donate 100% of the proceeds from those two days to the franchisee’s local charity of choice. That is a given for every location. It is something we’ve always done. We have team members who help franchisees set everything up and get the word out in the community.”

After the grand opening event, Burchill says the Famous Toastery team strongly urges franchisees to continue giving back to the guests who support their stores. “This is a community restaurant — it is a meeting place for friends and family,” he said. “Franchisees can help create this neighborhood establishment by donating to local elementary schools, charities and hospitals. For example, they can pick a specific day where they donate 15% of gross sales to a charity of their choosing. We help promote the efforts on our end, and they do so locally, as well.”

Overall, Burchill says franchisees should understand that Famous Toastery ownership is not only a business opportunity, it is also a way to give back. “Especially with what is going on in the world today, we want our franchisees to become an essential part of the community,” he said. “This not only sustains them as owners, but also gives them a meaningful business opportunity where they can help local businesses and say ‘thank you’ to guests for welcoming them to the community.”

Now, the Famous Toastery team is looking for qualified entrepreneurs who are eager to partner with a community-driven brand and invest in a business that provides them with a platform to give back. Looking ahead, the brand hopes to reach 50 units — doubling its current footprint — by 2024, with the bulk of that development planned for the Carolinas.

The cost to open a Famous Toastery franchise ranges from $575,500 to $999,500 including a franchise fee starting at $45,000. To learn about franchising opportunities, please visit
