Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation Forms Coronavirus Relief Fund

The Restaurant Workers COVID19 Crisis Relief Fund is meant to help individual restaurant workers, restaurant organizations and more.

The Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation (RWCF) announced on Monday that it has created a relief fund for restaurant workers affected by coronavirus-related shutdowns, according to a report in Grub Street, the food blog of New York magazine. The relief fund will also help organizations that support the restaurant industry, according to the article.

The Grub Street report noted that restaurant workers do not get the benefit of paid time off and that undocumented immigrants are in even worse shape from restaurant shutdowns.

The RWCF has promised to update its homepage with news and support and also provided a link on its website for those who want to contribute to the fund.

“Up until now, RWCF has been relatively light on direct pleas for donations, and that was for a reason,” RWCF co-founder and board president John deBary said in a statement. “We wanted to build a history of successful work before asking people to trust us with their charitable dollars. The coronavirus crisis has upended that strategy—we need to start working to help the most vulnerable among us NOW.”
