CCX Media: Right at Home’s Kristin Canny Urges Conversation With Kids About Alzheimer’s
Minneapolis-based Kristin Canny from Right at Home shared some tips about how families can cope with dementia and memory loss in their elderly loved ones.
In a segment on CCX Media in Minnesota, Plymouth Right at Home Owner Kristin Canny detailed ways families can recognize and manage elderly loved ones dealing with Alzheimer’s.
Canny especially recommended taking pains to keep a calm demeanor in front of your children, even in a frustrating situation.
“Anything that you are doing as an adult with your parent is going to be mimicked by the child,” Canny told CCX Media. “You want to make sure you don’t correct them. You should redirect different conversations, not telling them they are repeating themselves. You want to keep everybody comfortable. The more frustrated you get with your parent, the child sees that.”
Canny also said that honesty is the best policy to make sure your children understand the situation and the best approach moving forward.
