Businesses across the country are dealing with an unprecedented challenge right now: keeping customers engaged while they’re stuck at home. Whether a company is in retail or service, the coronavirus crisis has altered consumer demand in a way in which no one was able to predict. That’s why it’s more important than ever for brands to be creative with their approaches to reaching prospective customers during this time.

When the crisis first began, Wild Birds Unlimited immediately recognized the need to change how they connect with customers. Especially as social distancing and shelter in place regulations became the norm, the brand knew it was able to provide a positive experience for people across the country.

“During times like these, the joy of backyard bird feeding is more important than ever,” said Amy Moore, VP of Retail Concepts at Wild Birds Unlimited. “People are spending more time at home right now, so they have more time to enjoy the birds and nature around them. Bird watching and feeding can help people find an escape from the current insanity going on around us.”

To ensure that both loyal and new fans of the brand are able to enjoy the hobby of backyard bird feeding right now, Wild Birds Unlimited is in constant communication with its suppliers to ensure stores are stocked properly.

Moore said, “We’re working closely with our supply chain to make sure that we can get products into our stores safely when necessary. We’re also working side-by-side with our local store owners to keep them focused and motivated in order to best serve our customers.”

Wild Birds Unlimited is also making it possible for customers to order what they need online or in-store without being directly in contact with another person. A large majority of Wild Birds Unlimited stores are able to stay open by offering “bird-side delivery,” which is a no-contact way for stores to fulfill people’s bird feeding needs.

“We’re working closely with our franchisees to ensure that both our customers and employees are staying safe. Through our bird-side delivery, customers can call in an order and pay for it over the phone before driving to their local Wild Birds Unlimited to pick it up. Once they’re there, they can pull up in front of the store, open their trunk, and our team will place their order directly into their car without having any direct contact or risk of exposure,” Moore said.

As the coronavirus crisis continues to unfold and more information is made available, Wild Birds Unlimited is committed to working hand-in-hand with its local franchisees to ensure customers remain engaged. Ultimately, this will help the brand’s franchisees emerge on the other side of this in a better position than where they started.

Said Moore, “I think we’re going to come out of this stronger than ever. There’s going to be pent-up demand as well as unemployed people looking for jobs, and we’re looking forward to seeing both customers and employees back in our stores.”
