The BIGGBY® COFFEE Brand Celebrates 78 Franchises Sold and 35 Stores Opened in 2021

The leading coffee franchise plans to build on its recent growth momentum by signing another 100 franchise agreements by the end of 2022.

For BIGGBY® COFFEE, the 280-plus-unit coffee franchise focused on enriching communities and helping people build a life, 2021 proved to be a year of major growth. Last year, the brand signed 78 franchise agreements and opened 35 stores in seven states. Now, the BIGGBY® COFFEE brand is gearing up for even more growth in 2022, aiming to sign another 100 franchise agreements by year-end. 

Much of the BIGGBY® COFFEE brand’s recent growth can be attributed to the brand’s new modular, drive-thru-only store that’s available in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana — a model thought up by Jeff Konczak, one of the brand’s franchise owners.

“When he presented the drive-thru-only concept to us, we knew right away it was something special,” said Mike McFall, co-founder and co-CEO of the BIGGBY® COFFEE brand. “In 2021, we were deploying that model very aggressively, and by the end of the year, there were 21 operating and 33 more being built.”

It wasn’t just the franchise system that grew in 2021. The BIGGBY® COFFEE brand’s gross sales also spiked, growing by 28% across the system.

“Breaking that number down, 20% of sales increases were in same-store sales growth and 8% is new store sales growth,” said McFall. “We did have a COVID dip in 2020, but even during the pandemic year, our gross sales grew by 15.8%, and of that,  8.49% was same-store sales. Despite the dip during the pandemic, our sales outperformed the industry’s leaders in domestic same-store sales.” 

After a successful 2021, the BIGGBY® COFFEE brand has no plans of slowing down.
