Bloomberg: Google Will Prioritize Stories for Paying News Subscribers

This move comes as the major publications prioritize consumers paying for content.

Newspaper subscribers are now going to find that articles from those publications are popping up higher in their Google searches. According to Bloomberg, the search engine is aiming to help media companies find and retain paying readers.

In addition to prioritizing content from publications to their subscribers, Google is also going to be sharing search data that shows who is most likely to buy a subscription. That will help publishers better target potential subscribers in addition to helping them keep the people who are already paying for their content. This move comes as major publications like the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Washington Post are focusing more on subscriptions.

For franchise brands, this means that it’s more important than ever before to focus both on SEO and PR. Appearing high in Google searches is critical when it comes to lead generation, and appearing in as many publications as possible will continue to introduce concepts to potential franchisees and customers.
