Why CHOP5 is Targeting Indiana for Franchise Growth

The fast-casual salad chain sets its sights on Indiana for franchise expansion, targeting the Midwest's growing demand for healthier dining options.

CHOP5, a fast-casual salad chain specializing in customizable bowls, is preparing to expand its franchise into Indiana, according to the Indianapolis Recorder, targeting the growing demand for healthier dining options in the Midwest.

Co-founder Brian Mills believes that Indiana is an ideal market for the Columbus-based brand, which already has two locations in Ohio. CHOP5’s unique concept involves preparing chopped salads directly in front of customers, emphasizing freshness and transparency.

Mills, who had a background in the fast-casual industry through his work with Domino's, decided to branch out and create a franchise that focuses on healthier eating. After exploring different concepts with his business partner Allen Hertzman, they realized that chopped salads could fill a gap in the fast-casual space. The idea was to offer a flavorful, fresh product that is often expensive and time-consuming to prepare at home.

The brand has seen significant success in Columbus, Ohio, and Mills is confident that CHOP5’s appeal to health-conscious consumers will translate well to Indiana.

“The store has gone off like a rocket ship,” Mills told the Indianapolis Recorder. “We understand now there’s a client base in the Midwest that is truly trying to eat better for themselves.”

With plans to open their first franchise location in the state by 2025, Mills emphasizes that they are focused on laying a strong foundation and finding the right franchise partners to ensure long-term success.
