Doing This One Thing Right Will Immediately Improve Your Restaurants

On this week’s show, I spend a little time talking about WHY HR documentation is important, and I also share some tips on how to minimize your risk and get compliant.

HR, in general, tends to get a bad rap, often because it's viewed as burdensome, excessive, or time-consuming to properly roll out and maintain.

And for many restaurateurs, dealing with the necessary HR and payroll administration and compliance can easily become a frustrating endeavor. But, to have real restaurant success, you must have simple HR and payroll systems and processes in place, and you and all managers need to consistently follow these procedures.

The downside is that even the small tweaks can be an overwhelming task for busy restaurateurs, especially when you consider all of the HR-related areas that require organized systems and planning:

? Culture

? Recruiting

? Hiring

? Onboarding

? Leadership development

? Safety

? Payroll

? Benefits

? Performance management

? Termination

The pressure remains to take action though. For comparison, think about the disaster that would ensue if you didn't have a system to track inventory or sales. You would literally be flying by the seat of your pants, right? Guessing what to order and hoping your revenue stream covers it.

Now magnify that by, oh… 100,000 or so and you'll begin to see how risky it is to try to run your restaurant's HR without any plans or processes in place and simultaneously steer clear of costly litigation, plummeting employee morale, and loss of cultural identity. The sooner you get your people systems dialed in, the less trouble that will be headed your way.
