First Famous Toastery Franchisees Share What They Have Learned

Entrepreneur highlights the restaurant chain’s expansion down South.

If you don’t like something, change it. If you do like something, share it. That’s what Jason and Michele Serkin did with their favorite restaurant: Famous Toastery.

About a year and a half ago, the pair opened Famous Toastery’s first franchise location.

They opened the Tega City, S.C. location because they love the restaurant’s food and wanted to bring it to their local community. Rather than build their own restaurant from scratch, they wanted the support and guidance of an established brand.

In their interview with Entrepreneur, the Serkins said the hardest part of opening their franchise was the hiring process. It can be challenging to find hard workers that both bring positive energy and are committed to the brand.

But, after consulting with Famous Toastery’s executive team and doing lots of research, the couple built a successful restaurant and have already made $900,000 since its opening in 2013.

Jason and Michele advise others hoping to become franchisees to not cut corners; it’s important to not take the easiest or cheapest route. Also, at the end of the day, it’s important that you’re doing what’s best for you.

They hope to continue to provide superior customer service and bring Famous Toastery’s delicious food to other communities.

“We never want to just be ‘good,’” said the Serkins. “We strive to be “great.””

Famous Toastery currently has six locations in the Carolinas and has plans to expand.
