They will now be providing their dog obedience and training services to folks in Kissimmee and Lakeland through their existing location in Ocoee.“We just want to be able to give to our community in so many different ways: obedience training, service therapy training — bringing those dogs into the hospital now with COVID happening — being able to bring a little joy back into people’s lives and things like that,” Chelsea said. “Our goal in life is to be able to make people&nbsp;and dogs happy at the same time.”1851 Franchise spoke with Chelsea to discuss her journey into franchising with Cheyenne, the couple’s passion for serving their community and their plans for the future.1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us.&nbsp;What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Emery:&nbsp;We were both nurses prior to jumping into Dog Training Elite, and that was our career goal. We were both looking into being nurse practitioners, which Cheyenne has actually done. But she always wanted to be an entrepreneur, so we were looking into different ideas for franchising or even having our own business — and we came across Dog Training Elite. We were both born and raised around dogs, so we felt like it was something that was very fitting for the both of us.As nurses, we were both people of service before Dog Training Elite. We wanted to do something where we’d still be helping people, so we felt like owning a franchise with Dog Training Elite was the way to go.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Emery:&nbsp;Honestly, I didn’t really even understand franchising; I knew there were franchises all over the place, but I never really showed an interest in it because my thought was to be a nurse for my entire life. That’s what I’ve always wanted to do. But Cheyenne was the go-getter. She was the one that wanted to do more of an entrepreneur/own-your-own-business thing, so she mentioned some different ideas and I was like, “Let’s try this one.”Looking back, we wanted freedom of our scheduling and we wanted to help our community in a different way. It’s been nothing but rewarding, so I would recommend Dog Training Elite to anyone. It’s a great franchise. It’s definitely family-oriented; we call all of us “a pack.” It’s a very rewarding franchise to be a part of.1851:&nbsp;What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Emery: We always go back to the day that we went out to Utah for [Dog Training Elite’s] Approval Day. We met the CEO at the time, and we met some other franchise owners — they’d actually started their business when Dog Training Elite first opened — and we were so welcomed. It just felt like a very loving family environment, which is something that me and Cheyenne always strive for. So when we went out there, we were sold after the first day. It just seemed like it was something that was calling us.I never really knew in depth about dog training. I trained my dog but didn’t really understand the extent of what the benefits could be of training a dog and making them obedient, or even going into the service and therapy aspects of training and how much of a difference we could make in someone’s life. So, I think just being able to help the community in that way. We just felt like it was our calling, and we knew, after day one of being in Utah, that this was the brand that we wanted to follow. We had looked into other dog training companies, but none of them really seemed to strike our interest. Dog Training Elite just completely exceeded our expectations.1851:&nbsp;What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?&nbsp;Emery: We just grew into the Kissimmee-Lakeland area. Our goal from day one was to always expand to give more quality training over the Central Florida area to people who are looking for it. Like I said, I didn’t really understand the value of having a well-trained dog until we went through Dog Training Elite’s training program and applied it to our own dogs. I was amazed at how much trust and freedom I could give my dog and how much I could rely on her to behave out in public. So that’s why we want to expand; we want to be able to take Dog Training Elite all over Central Florida and be able to give that quality training to people that need and want it the most.1851:&nbsp;What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?Emery: Cheyenne and I started out as nurses because we wanted to help people and make them feel better and serve them in a way that they needed, when they needed it the most. Now we’re translating that into the dog community and a lot of what we focus on is service dog training, which is becoming more and more popular in psychiatric service, like veterans with PTSD.I just want to make sure&nbsp; people understand that we’re in it for the right reasons; we just want to be able to give to our community in so many different ways: obedience training, service therapy training — bringing those dogs into the hospital now with COVID happening — being able to bring a little bit of joy back into people’s lives and things like that. Our goal in life is to be able to make people&nbsp;and dogs happy at the same time so they’re able to enjoy their dogs and not feel like they’re on a cliff ready to jump off because their dog is destroying their house.In our hearts, we are completely committed to this business and we just want to give back to our community in any way, shape or form.1851:&nbsp;What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?Emery: I had no idea what owning a franchise would be like, but now that we’re about three years into owning our own franchise here in Central Florida, it’s super cool to be able to have the freedom to make your own schedule or to build on the foundation of what Dog Training Elite is supposed to be. What do you want us to know?Pratham Patel:&nbsp;I’m 24 years old and graduated from Georgia Tech in May 2023 with a degree in computer science. Georgia Tech’s CS program is consistently ranked among the best in the country, and it really shaped the way I think — analytically, strategically, and with a long-term mindset. After graduation, I worked a couple of corporate roles in Atlanta before ultimately moving back home to Warner Robins.I come from a very business-oriented family background, primarily in retail — liquor stores, gas stations, and similar ventures — so entrepreneurship has always been around me. This is my first time stepping into the food and beverage industry on my own, and it’s a new challenge I’m excited to take on. Having lived here my entire life, I know the community and the market inside and out, which gives me a strong foundation as I build something here.1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Patel:&nbsp;In my first role, I worked on implementing advanced business analytics strategies for a mobile ordering platform widely used in the hospitality industry. After that, I joined Boeing as a systems data analyst supporting the C-17 program here in my hometown. When I experienced a layoff at Boeing, it forced me to take a step back and really think about what I wanted long term. That’s when I realized I’d always wanted to build something of my own — just like my parents did.I knew stepping into business ownership wouldn’t be easy, especially as a first-time operator. Building a concept entirely from scratch is challenging and requires constant innovation. What attracted me to the franchise model was the structure — the framework is already proven, and the concept has been tested. My job is to execute it at a high level. I bring youthful energy and creative thinking to the table, but having that established foundation gave me the confidence to take the leap.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Patel:&nbsp;Before going through this process, I didn’t really understand what franchising actually provides. I had a pretty negative perception — I assumed it was mostly about high royalty fees with limited support in return. They see it as an investment in you as an operator, not just a transaction.When I began this journey, I had no experience negotiating leases, navigating tenant improvement allowances, or running food and hospitality operations. He helped prepare me for every stage of the process, and because of that guidance, I now feel extremely confident handling complex lease negotiations and development decisions. For my location in Warner Robins, I’m investing in a high-tech AV system and a modern lighting package, which no other location has ever done before. I also looked at one of their best-performing locations in California and saw how they utilized their patio and interior design. I’m taking elements from that success to build something new here.&nbsp;Long term, I’m focused on growth. Once we’re fully operational and have achieved great success, I plan to explore opening additional locations across the Southeast, with markets like Charlotte and Miami already on my radar. My goal is to position The Brass Tap as a leading name in the bar and nightlife scene, on par with the biggest players in the region.Looking ahead, I also have a vision of developing rooftop concepts and creating locations connected to sports-driven facilities, including pickleball, to bring together nightlife, community, and active lifestyle experiences under one brand.1851:&nbsp;Is there anything else about your story you want us to know?Patel:&nbsp;I don’t view this as just a business investment — I see it as an investment in the community that raised me. Giving back to this city is deeply important to me, and community involvement is a core part of my vision for The Brass Tap. My goal isn’t just to open a successful bar, but to build something that truly contributes — whether that’s partnering with local charities, hosting fundraisers, supporting small businesses, or backing community initiatives across Middle Georgia.I want The Brass Tap to be more than a place for great drinks and nightlife — I want it to be a place that brings people together and strengthens the community we all share. We went on to buy and build a couple of multifamily homes and lowered the rent. In trying to buy housing and build affordable housing, I was also looking to start workforce development. I thought I would train people to fix houses and give them jobs.1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Campbell:&nbsp;As I started writing up that workforce development program, it was really hard. But one day I saw TruBlue, and I thought, “Wow — this is a business with a purpose.” You can merge service and community, and that’s my sweet spot. What are your plans for growth?Campbell:&nbsp;TruBlue did a great job of helping us understand that a Silver Tsunami is coming. I’m a Baby Boomer myself, and I know that 65 is just getting in the game nowadays.I’ve ensured that our team learns about senior citizens. As a senior, we sometimes forget that we’re not 21 anymore. People know about the risk of falling, but they still get on ladders.I went to change a light bulb the other day on a step ladder, and when I was coming down, I almost broke my neck. I can afford to have somebody come over and do the maintenance plan. They can come by every quarter. That fall was fitting — I’d never had that happen before.We don’t age in our minds as much as we age in our bodies. It’s just not worth it. Sometimes you can have a fall and get injuries that you never recover from.1851: What does your background bring to the TruBlue model?Campbell:&nbsp;I’m a senior. I’m in real estate. I own personal real estate in five states. I understand the entrepreneur who has to get his house ready for a flip, and I understand providers. We provide a premium service. What’s going to determine how the client feels about the job is how they feel about you. That’s why I teach five-star service. It’s about relationships. If we make good relationships, we can bring in repeat customers.1851: What are your long-term goals with TruBlue?Campbell:&nbsp;I’m writing grants to build houses and getting ready to build 34 units for veterans — permanent housing for chronically homeless veterans. It’s a $10 million project. We’re also starting a all boys school, HOPE Technology Preparatory Academy, a high school for boys 9-14th years. What’s different about this school is it’s culture over curriculum and giving them the chance to belong to a brotherhood. If we don’t give them a place to belong in the school, they will find a place to belong in a gang. With TruBlue, I can have them working for us being exposed to different skills, environments, people, doing work and awakening their perspective to so much more. These young men won’t be in a traditional school with a workforce program; the school is the workforce program and a stabilizing institution in the community as it will host a head start program, daycare center, and learning labs for adults and to get their GED, high school diploma and learn new trades and skills.My goal is to expand with TruBlue into other states. I believe that when I talk to them this time next year, we’re going to outperform most franchisees. I’m an overachiever, that’s what I do.
