The process of becoming a franchisee has changed in many ways from the process that occurred 20 years ago. According to a recent Fortune article, employment and technology have changed significantly over the past two decades, and are both top reasons why the franchising industry has changed.

Jos loss is one trend that continues to create new franchisees. After a company downsizes or people are ready to leave the corporate world, they start to look for alternatives options for their careers. With outsourcing, robots, and automation, many jobs are continuing to be eliminated.

While job security remains and issue for many, franchise regulations are currently in limbo. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is considering changing the way franchise businesses operate and how involved the franchisor is in operations. While the International Franchise Association is fighting this ruling, it could change the way a potential franchisee looks at a large investment if they cannot be the ones determining how they hire and operate on a day to day basis. Time will tell whether or not this rule is implemented.

With the internet and ability to investigate the perfect franchise for you has made the process much easier for candidates. Instead of heading to the library, spending time on the phone with the company, or requesting a franchise brochure, a quick search online will help answer many of the basic questions that could narrow down your search.
