Why This Griswold Franchisee is Following in his Mother’s Footsteps

Richard Hall, a new franchisee bringing Griswold to Dayton, Ohio, saw first-hand the type of meaningful and rewarding impact the non-medical home care business could have on the community.

Richard Hall, a former corporate manager at Chipotle, has embarked on a new chapter in his career by investing in a Griswold franchise in Southeast Dayton, Ohio. At just 32 years old, Hall is driven by a desire to find deeper fulfillment and purpose — qualities he feels were stifled in his previous corporate roles. His decision to join Griswold was significantly influenced by his mother, Lisa, who is also a Griswold franchisee, as well as the personal experience of losing both of his grandmothers.

“I realized I wanted something more,” Hall said. “I’m very empathetic and compassionate, qualities that can be seen as weaknesses in corporate America. Griswold is a people-first environment that values those traits. It’s all about helping people live better lives, which is a much better fit for me.”

After years in retail management and a corporate role at Chipotle, Hall sought a more meaningful and people-focused venture. His mother’s success as a Griswold franchisee opened his eyes to the possibilities within the in-home senior care industry. Inspired by the connections she made and the impact she had on her community, Hall decided to follow in her footsteps.

“My mother was introduced to Griswold a few years ago,” said Hall. “She reevaluated her career and decided to pursue something more meaningful. Watching her journey and the connections she made opened my eyes to the business. I realized I wanted something more, too.”

Hall’s decision was further solidified by the recent loss of his grandmothers — one after a short battle with pancreatic cancer and another following a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer’s. These personal experiences highlighted the importance of compassionate care and inspired Hall to help families like his own.

“Starting this business gives me an opportunity to help families by providing forms of care we didn’t necessarily know much about at the time,” said Hall. “It allows seniors to stay in their own homes and provides peace of mind to their loved ones.”

Founded in 1982 as the first non-medical home care franchise in the United States, Griswold is backed by over 40 years of experience providing quality home care to the elderly, disabled adults, and individuals recovering from illnesses. Griswold was founded by Dr. Jean Griswold, a senior care professional who had multiple sclerosis (MS) and recognized firsthand that the elderly often lacked the assistance they needed to remain independent at home.

With plans to launch his Griswold franchise in Dayton and eventually expand throughout Ohio, Hall is excited about the future. The aging Baby Boomer population and their preference for aging in place make this an opportune time to enter the home care industry, and Hall is eager to grow his business and make a positive impact on his community.

“I want to get things going in Dayton and then expand throughout the state of Ohio,” said Hall. “I am young and this industry is very exciting, especially with the Baby Boomer generation wanting to continue living in their own homes. It’s an exciting time.”
