Working as an insurance and real estate agent, her plate was relatively full, but she knew she wanted to build something for herself and her family.Franchising just made sense; with proper support and training, she could continue with her other passions. By entering the painting industry, she could build a business that could work in tandem with her existing professional pursuits.Carlile recently opened her&nbsp;<a href="https://1851franchise.com/freshcoat/info">Fresh Coat franchise</a> and is serving the greater Odessa area as she works to grow the business and create a platform that the entire family can get involved in.Carlile took the time to chat with 1851 Franchise to discuss all of this and more. Here’s what she had to say:1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Jesica Carlile:&nbsp;I work in insurance full-time and I’m also a real estate agent. My husband and I had thought about franchises for a few years and were told a home-based option would be a good way to start out. This area is extremely expensive for real estate, so it just made sense.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Carlile:&nbsp;I knew I would have a lot more help and resources than I would if I were doing it on my own, but I had no idea what those resources actually were. People should know that support is a big part of franchising, but what the support actually is will vary between the different franchisors.1851:&nbsp;What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Carlile:&nbsp;We landed on painting because it just matches so well with what I already do. Things like closing days for real estate sales, vacant homes and even insurance claims could all potentially require some type of painting service. I already have connections with real estate agents, so we have a good foundation.1851:&nbsp;What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?&nbsp;Carlile:&nbsp;We want to grow. This will be a family-owned business, and I’m hoping to grow it to the point where we can involve the kids. Whether they’re playing a part in estimating or recruiting painters, I want to include them. It would also be nice to buy more territories and expand as our team grows.1851:&nbsp;What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?Carlile:&nbsp;My dad owns a heavy equipment repair business. He started that in 2009 and is now getting ready to retire, but over the years, I gained some experience helping him with the little aspects of the business.Aside from that, there’s no other entrepreneurship in the family. This is a brand new venture for me, and I came into it with little to no knowledge, but the Fresh Coat training was a huge help. I learned more than I ever thought I would, and I’m confident we made the right choice.1851:&nbsp;What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?Carlile:&nbsp;Do your research. Take your time to decide what field you want to go into and look into all of the different options there are. We went through a franchise consultant and he was able to pool all of the options together for us. He helped us compare the royalties between brands and take a deeper look at what was being offered so we could understand what we would actually be paying for.You need to make sure the resources will be there.
