Photos and Links Won’t Count in Twitter’s 140-Character Limit Anymore
Social media company to supposedly make change in next couple weeks
For franchisors and franchisees that use Twitter, major shifts may be on the horizon allowing users more freedom to create longer messages.
According to a recent story in Bloomberg, the social media company will soon stop counting photos and links as part of its 140-character limit. Links currently use 23 characters, even after Twitter automatically shortens them.
The 140-character limit was originally adopted because it would allow tweets to fit into a text message; a common way tweets were sent when the service debuted in 2006 before everyone began using smartphones.
Twitter has been toying with the idea of raising its character limits for some time now, even increasing the limit into the thousands. But this new expansion allows the site to still retain its concise nature, which since its inception has allowed it to set itself apart from its competition.
