Registered Nurse Signs on to Bring Griswold’s Compassionate Home Care to Greensburg, Pennsylvania
With a background in nursing and a firsthand understanding of caregiving challenges, Caitlin Kelley is launching Griswold in Greensburg to support her community and help seniors age in place.
When Caitlin Kelley and her husband Ryan saw their own parents struggling to care for aging family members, they knew there had to be a better way. Inspired by their experiences and their shared business mindset, the duo decided to take action. This February, they officially opened Griswold in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, offering essential home care services to families in need.
With her background in nursing and her husband’s expertise in business, Caitlin recognized that Griswold provides the ideal combination of structure, support and community focus. Now, she’s on a mission to make high-quality, compassionate care accessible to seniors in Western Pennsylvania.
1851 Franchise spoke with Cailtin to learn more about her background, what drew her to Griswold and her plans for the future.
1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?
Caitlin Kelley: I started my career in nursing and later transitioned into remote nursing, working for a data analytics company. My husband has a doctorate in business, and we’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset.
We started looking into home care after seeing the difficulties both of our parents faced caring for their own parents. That experience really opened our eyes to the need for quality, reliable home care. When we found Griswold, we knew it was the right fit.
1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?
Caitlin: We’ve experimented with different business ventures — like running a barbecue business in the summers and selling pies — just to see what would be a good fit. We even considered starting a home care company from scratch, but ultimately, we realized that the support and guidance from a franchise would be invaluable. Griswold gave us a proven model to follow, along with the resources we needed to get started successfully.
1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?
Caitlin: A few things really stood out to us. First, the story of Jean Griswold and how the company started was incredibly inspiring. That strong foundation in compassionate care aligned with what we were looking for.
Then, there was the team — everyone we met at Griswold was amazing and their level of support really made a difference. Business-wise, our territory was also a great fit and Griswold’s marketing and community-focused approach sealed the deal for us.
1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?
Caitlin: Right now, we are the only Griswold franchise on the western half of Pennsylvania, so our goal is to become a key resource for families in our area. We want to be involved in local events and truly integrate into the community.
In the long term, we’re looking to expand beyond our initial territory and bring Griswold’s services to even more families.
1851: What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?
Caitlin: My grandmother had a language barrier, which made finding the right care incredibly difficult. I saw firsthand how much pressure it put on my aunt to be the full-time caregiver without a break. It was exhausting and it made me realize how essential home care really is.
Right now, my father is spending so much of his time caring for his aging parents and my husband’s grandfather also wanted to stay at home. That process was exhausting for my husband and his mother, and it showed us just how vital these services are. Home care gives people the ability to remain in their homes while allowing their children and families to focus on being loved ones, not just Caregivers.
1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?
Caitlin: Go with your gut. After interviewing multiple franchises, Griswold quickly rose to the top of our list. It was still a huge investment and a big life change, but we trusted our instincts, and we’re so thankful and excited about this decision.
This isn’t just an investment in a business — it’s an investment in our community, our family and our children’s future.
