After playing football at a Division I university, Marvin Taylor is taking to the field of home improvement experts in Plano by opening a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.premiumservicebrands.com/360-painting/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=the-great-franchisee-marvin-taylor-360-painting-plano-texas-2718646#~2U2m815" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">360º Painting</a> business. No stranger to determination and grit, Taylor says the pandemic didn’t scare him away from reaching his goal of being the go-to resource for contractors and residents in Northeast Texas. As a former Division I football player for the University of Louisiana-Monroe, Taylor’s competitive nature has taken on new meaning in the business world. 360° Painting is a <a href="https://www.premiumservicebrands.com/about-us/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=the-great-franchisee-marvin-taylor-360-painting-plano-texas-2718646#~2U2m815" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Premium Service Brand (PSB)</a>, which has over 144 franchise locations. We spoke to Taylor to learn more about his journey with <a href="https://1851franchise.com/360painting/latest_stories">360° Painting</a>.<h4>1851 Franchise:&nbsp;Tell us a little about your background.</h4>Marvin Taylor: I was born in Saginaw, Michigan, where I lived with my parents, Alfonso Jr. and Luella, and three brothers, Alfonso, Darrell and Warren. My dad worked for General Motors, and the company relocated us to Shreveport, Louisiana, when I was in high school. I played football in Shreveport and wanted to continue, so I boldly walked onto the <a href="https://ulmwarhawks.com/splash.aspx?id=splash_11&amp%3Bpath=football&utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=the-great-franchisee-marvin-taylor-360-painting-plano-texas-2718646" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">University of Louisiana-Monroe’s Division I football team </a>and played for two years. I earned my undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University. Before franchising, I was regional vice president of Kimco Facility Services in the Southwest United States. It was similar to running my own business, because I worked with contractors, made payroll and followed a budget closely.&nbsp;<h4>1851:&nbsp;How did you initially learn about franchising?</h4>Taylor: I certainly wasn’t looking for it. I received a random call one day from franchise consultant <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/adamgoldmanfranchise/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=the-great-franchisee-marvin-taylor-360-painting-plano-texas-2718646" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Adam Goldman</a>. He asked me if I had ever considered franchising. While I wasn’t initially looking for the opportunity, after speaking with Goldman and reading over the information provided by him, I was excited to learn more.&nbsp;<h4>1851:&nbsp;How did you decide you wanted to be a franchisee?</h4>Taylor:&nbsp;I did my research. Franchise recruiter <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/franchise-sales/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=the-great-franchisee-marvin-taylor-360-painting-plano-texas-2718646" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Matt Reeves</a> introduced me to successful industry experts. Reeves, who has 15 years of franchise experience in facility management, has worked with customers and vendors, contractors and clients. Having a lot in common with Reeves made this whole process better, and it gave me the additional drive to learn everything I could. I worked tirelessly, learning all there was to know and asking a lot of questions to gain knowledge and understanding of what I was about to embark on.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h4>1851: What made you say yes to 360º Painting?</h4>Taylor:&nbsp;What attracted me to the business model was that I knew there would be nothing in this new role that I hadn’t already encountered in previous situations. From an operational standpoint, and even a financial perspective, I knew how to read numbers and drive results in this industry. The platform 360º Painting has created gives you access to every franchisee in the country. This allows me to call others and have conversations about what does and doesn't work for them in business. I had the chance to ask about struggles early on and pitfalls to avoid.<h4>1851: What makes you stand out as a unique business owner in the local community?</h4>Taylor:&nbsp;I want to be intentional about building relationships with customers and painters. I want them to know they will be treated right, and I will always bring a good attitude to the table, focusing on reliable communication with them. Ultimately, I will provide dependable, quality service.&nbsp;<h4>1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? Growth plans?&nbsp;</h4>Taylor:&nbsp;First and foremost, we are focused on learning the business right now. The idea moving forward is definitely to scale the business.
