The News Times: Founder of Youth Sports League Opens The Cleaning Authority in Danbury, Connecticut

Last week, Chris Morris opened a franchise of The Cleaning Authority, a residential cleaning service. Previously he held a 20-year career in financial services with roles at Master Card, American Express and Merrill Lynch.

“I was downsized and as I weighed my options I really wanted to be my own boss and not subject to the corporate whims of downsizing,” Morris said.

Remaining in Danbury after losing his job was important to Morris as he has two children at Immaculate High School. He also wants to re-establish Western Connecticut Youth Sports, a nonprofit organization that offers sports instruction in a noncompetitive setting. He established the program in 2012 and it reached a peak of 200 coaches and players before not having a season in 2016 because of the uncertainty with his job situation.

“When you’re thrown a curveball and you don’t have control of your own life anymore, you really want to get that control back,” Morris said. “We really didn’t want to uproot the kids and we love the Danbury community. We’ve put down roots here. Having a business here is a good way to get to know the community even better.”

Sports and business draw many parallels, Morris said, and goals are important to both. As for his new business, Morris said: “I want to be known as the best residential cleaner in the area we serve. It’s as simple as that.”
